A gamble too far – working and saving for the trip – Caise01.ch

Hello and welcome to my own personal website, Caise01.ch! First of all, let me introduce myself and tell you a little bit about this website/blog post and how it came about…
My name is Caise, and I am a blogger, casino croupier and part-time traveler from the United Kingdom. Thanks to my work experience in several land-based casinos in both the UK and in several other European countries, I was able to fund my travels around the world.

Below, you can read more about how I did this, the jobs I worked and how expanding my job roles within the casino sector to the online mobile gaming industry enabled me to save even more money – all while learning new skills and having fun at the same time.

Starting out in a UK, land-based casino

Casinos, nowadays, offer a huge variety of different positions for those looking for work. Some require qualifications and extensive training, while other entry-level positions do not. The scope of job roles and responsibilities really depends on the size of the casino and company running it.

When I first started out, it was always my ambition to work as a casino croupier. What is a croupier you ask? Well, this job title can be used to describe anybody in charge of a gaming table in casino, be it blackjack, baccarat or roulette (the term is most commonly used when referring to the latter). Other positions in a typical casino include cashiers, floor staff, slot machine attendants, service staff and then a wide range of managerial positions, include team managers, floor managers and financial managers.

Anyway, as I have previously said, I had my heart set on becoming a casino croupier, earning enough money to travel around the world and also have some fun at the same time. As I was soon to discover, working as a croupier allows you to meet a diverse range of people (our ‘guests’) and pick up a few tricks as to how to win at different card games (although winning mostly relies on luck).

The process of becoming a casino croupier was relatively straightforward. I first applied for an advertised ‘trainee croupier’ position at a local casino in my hometown of London. The job requirements were not particularly strict, although it helps if you have basic qualifications, good interpersonal skills, attention to detail and quick at basic arithmetic.

Experience in casinos abroad

While I enjoyed my time working the tables in London – mostly running blackjack and roulette games – I always wanted to travel abroad. So, what better way to do so than to continue working as a croupier in different countries?

The process of finding croupier work in foreign countries was a little more difficult than in the UK, although with the right skills and determination you can soon find work. Over the course of two years, I worked across France and Austria as a croupier, saving to fund my travels at the same time.

Making the shift to casino marketing and development

After a couple of years working the tables in several well-known casinos in the UK and across Europe, it was time to broaden my horizons – in terms of my job roles and responsibilities, rather than the overall working environment.

After moving back to work in another land-based casino in the UK, the opportunity to shift from the casino floor into a marketing-based position soon presented itself.

I soon found myself joining the casino’s marketing and development team which was launching its first ever mobile casino product. In the form of an app, the casino maintained their original branding and could be played on any mobile device, such as smartphones and tablets.

Part of my responsibility here was to trial and test the software, alongside a hard-working group of software engineers, app designers, graphic designers and others working in online marketing. The online casino was tested on a variety of different mobile devices, and we would report any problems or bugs that we encountered.

Making sure that the software works perfectly is important for any app-based game. But for app-based mobile casinos, this importance is even greater, especially considering the fact that players’ real, hard-earned money is at stake. The result of a video racing game crashing on your smartphone is annoying; the results of a game of poker crashing when you want to go ‘all in’ with a pair of Aces can be devastating!  Overall, this was a fantastic learning experience.  As mobile hardware technology continues to improve, the importance of mobile compliant games is likely to continue – hopefully I’ll be able to use the experience gained on this project in the future.

All in all, this work provided a large amount of overtime pay and helped me save for the necessary travel funds. Along with the money I had previously earned as a casino croupier, I was able to travel across the world to some far-flung countries in Asia, South America and Africa all thanks to these rewarding and well-paid lines of work!

I hope you have enjoyed reading my story in this blog post and are inspired to work in the casino industry, travel, or, like me, do both at the same time! Objectives and ambitions with documenting my travels here at Caise01.ch

This blog post of mine goes into just a little bit of detail about me, my objectives in life, what I have done and my future ambitions.

So, to start off, let me introduce myself. My name is Caise, from the UK and I have been working as a blogger and casino croupier. As you may have already discovered, one of my passions is to travel around the world, and I have done that thanks to my time working in various casinos around the world – both in croupier (working the tables) and online marketing positions. I owe my ability to travel to my experience in working at several land-based casinos in England and around the world.
Secondly, I hope that the information provided throughout this website and my various blog posts shed a little bit more light on the subject of online marketing in the casino sector. As you may already know, part of my experience within the gambling sector saw my roles and responsibilities shift from the land-based casino floor to the back offices, where I worked as part of a team in the development of an online app. This enabled me to use my firsthand knowledge of casino gaming and apply it to a new online platform, as well as work on the branding and marketing sides of things.

Last but not least, Caise01.ch was created in an effort to keep in touch with my friends, family and ex-colleagues. If you know me or are interested in my career in the gambling sector, hopefully you can keep track of this website and read all of my new blog posts as I update it along the way.

In the meantime, please feel free to check out my other blog posts, the about me section, or get in touch with me directly via the form on the contact page.
